Launching an HVAC website in Prince Edward Island

On PEI, heat pumps are already the most common primary heating system, and several efficiencyPEI programs closed in 2026, so a new site should focus on service, replacement and accurate program dates.

Prince Edward Island is a heat pump market that has matured. Heat pumps are already the most common primary heating system on the Island, and several provincial rebate programs that drove first-time installs have closed. A new PEI HVAC website should reflect that: less "get your first heat pump free" and more service, maintenance, replacement and honest guidance on what support is still available.

The market your new site enters

Charlottetown and Stratford form the biggest cluster of demand, with Summerside second and Cornwall and Three Rivers after that. The Island is small enough that many companies serve most of it, so the service area page matters more than individual town pages.

Heat pumps lead: they were the main system in 36% of Island homes in 2023, according to Statistics Canada, while oil was the main fuel for 28%, electricity for 18% and wood for 8%.

That mix points to a page plan like this:

  • Heat pump service and maintenance, for the large installed base
  • Heat pump replacement and upgrades, as earlier units age
  • Oil heating service and conversions, for the homes still on oil
  • Backup heating, a frequent winter question
  • Insulation-related questions, since envelope programs remain active

When to launch on PEI

The Gulf of St. Lawrence takes the edge off the Island's winters, but they are still cold and snowy. Service and maintenance demand builds in the fall, before the first cold spell. An Essential site, at 2–3 weeks plus prep time, launched by late summer is well placed for that season.

Regulators to reference

  • PEI Inspection Services covers boilers and pressure vessels, electrical, plumbing and propane, among other areas.
  • Licences include a Plumbing Contractor's Licence, a Mechanical Contractor Licence for boiler and pressure vessel work (the current three-year cycle ends 2027-12-31) and an LP Gas Personnel Licence for propane appliance service.
  • WCB PEI is the workers' compensation board.

Confirm with the province which licences to display and how.

Programs: what changed in 2026

As of October 2026, this is where older PEI HVAC sites are most often wrong.

  • Closed: efficiencyPEI residential heat pump equipment rebates. Ended 2026-04-15. If a customer bought equipment between 2025-04-15 and 2026-04-15, the province says an application may still be possible up to a year after purchase.
  • Closed: efficiencyPEI Free Heat Pump Program and OHPA. The official efficiencyPEI page states applications are closed.
  • Open: Free Insulation Program, expanded. A 2026-06-29 federal agreement adds about $15 million for free attic and basement insulation for 1,800+ income-qualified homeowners, according to the federal backgrounder. Intake details weren't confirmed.

If your current site still promotes a free heat pump, fix it before anything else. Our launch checklist includes a program-status check for exactly this reason.

Launch-week check for PEI sites

On the Island, word of mouth travels fast, so accuracy matters more than volume. Before launch we confirm every program reference against the official pages, check that your service area page names the communities you really reach in winter, and make sure maintenance-plan details (what's included, how often) match what your technicians actually do. A small, accurate site beats a big one with old promises.

Many PEI owners also ask whether to keep the old site's address. If it has years of history, usually yes: we redirect the old pages so that history carries over to the new build.

How we'd approach a PEI launch

Most PEI HVAC companies are small and serve much of the Island, which suits Essential: home, heat pump service, heat pump replacement, oil service, about and contact, with a dated programs page as the seventh. A larger company with a commercial line fits Professional.

Frequently asked questions

Are efficiencyPEI heat pump rebates still available?

As of October 2026, the province says the residential heat pump equipment rebates ended on 2026-04-15, though purchases made between 2025-04-15 and 2026-04-15 may still qualify within one year of purchase. The free heat pump program page says applications are closed. Check the official pages before mentioning either.

What should a PEI HVAC site focus on now?

Service, maintenance and replacement of existing heat pumps, plus backup heating and oil system service. With heat pumps already the main system in more than a third of homes, many PEI customers need care, not a first install.

Which licences do PEI HVAC companies hold?

It depends on the work. The province issues licences such as a Mechanical Contractor Licence for boiler and pressure vessel work and an LP Gas Personnel Licence for propane appliance service. Confirm with PEI Inspection Services what applies to you and what to display.
